In the previous blog in the series we covered how to build a sales machine that can get you your first online sale, and reliably and consistently turn traffic into sales.
Now it’s time to go over how to actually USE the machine, and feed it targeted, hungry traffic to first build a steady passive income, and then scale it to five, six or even seven figures.
We’ll start with step 4 in this blog, and if you’ve missed steps 1,2 and 3, check out the previous blog.
STEP 4: GET LOTS OF TARGETED TRAFFIC
Once you have a target market, a good offer and a sales funnel (your conversion system) it’s time to start driving people to it.
While we refer to sending people to our sites in this business as sending ‘traffic’, it’s important to remember that all traffic you drive is a real person sitting at their computer.
Your job is to find out where your target market hangs out, and put your lead capture page in front of them to get them on your list and to your offer page.
First, it’s important to understand that there are two types of traffic.
Free traffic, and paid traffic.
If you want to grow a real online business, you need to focus on paid traffic.
Paying websites to advertise on them or paying people to advertise to their audience. The easiest way to get started is to make a list of all the blogs, forums and websites where your target market already is.
Then one by one, reach out to them and see if they offer banner advertising or a solo ad where they’ll mail your offer to their list in return for a small fee.
You can also use sites like BuySellAds.com to place banners on relevant websites and Udimi.com to buy solo ads.
Traffic is the easy part.
Find a way to put your website in front of your audience, test small ads and scale what works. When you have a good offer and good market match; it will convert and be profitable!
STEP 5: BUILD YOUR LIST, CREATE A REAL BRAND, FOLLOW-UP, AND OFFER MORE PRODUCTS TO THEM
The fifth step is building a responsive list of email subscribers and monetising them!
One of the biggest secrets of people who make millions online is they know how to build and cultivate a loyal group of email subscribers.
Here’s how it works:
When you start sending traffic to your sales funnel, the first thing you’ll be doing is capturing emails.
These emails get stored on your autoresponder account, which allows you to automatically follow-up with them with pre-written and scheduled emails, as well as send one time broadcast emails to your entire list.
This ‘list’ is your greatest marketing asset. The more people on your email list, the more money you’ll make each month.
An old Internet Marketing adage was you can make $1 per subscriber per month on your email list.
1000 email subscribers = $1000 per month.
10,000 email subscribers = $10,000 per month.
Now I’ve been doing this for a while, and I can confidently say that 10,000 email subscribers is when you can easily become financially free no matter what niche you’re in or what you’re selling.
But the fact is, you can make a lot more than $1 per email subscriber on your list.
If you’re not new to Internet Marketing and have been building your email list, but aren’t seeing results I can imagine you’re feeling frustrated.
That’s because of this one truth:
People Join Your Email List Because They Want What You Promised Them, And They Stick Around Because They Become Attached To Your Character.
If you’re sending the same emails as everyone else in your market or blasting your list with offer after offer, short emails with no value = your list will become highly UNRESPONSIVE.
Instead, you need to send value based, content packed emails that help your audience.
Emails that brand you, position you as an authority and display your brand or personal character.
First, you use a series of automated follow-up emails that go out to your new email subscribers after they optin on your lead capture page. A sequence of 30 emails that give value and overcome objections will create sales for your offer.
Second, you start emailing one-time broadcast emails to your list. These emails should be current, relevant, content based, entertaining, funny and interesting.
Remember, people only keep opening your emails if they get entertained, get value and like YOUR CHARACTER.

There are five basic building blocks for creating a character your list will bond with. They are:
- Your Back Story (how you came to start your business and list)
- What You Stand For (Your Beliefs And Values)
- Your Magic Powers (What You’re Good At & Can Do For Them)
- Your Stories
- Your Secret Language
..And each building block must be carefully crafted to match the desired outcome of your market.
The fastest way to implement this is to model what other top marketers or companies are doing in your market.

STEP 6: TURN UP THE VOLUME
Once you’re getting traffic to your system and generating sales; you’ll start seeing some numbers.
It’s easy to get excited and just start dumping money into more and more paid traffic.
But just because you spend $99 on a solo ad and make $499 back does not mean you’ll 5x your return when you spend $1,000.00.
First, you want to get clear on your numbers
What is your average customer value?
What is your customer acquisition cost?
These are the secret questions every top Internet entrepreneur and company knows the answers to very well.
People who look for the cheapest traffic and want to spend $50 or less to make a sale are fools.
The first step is to find out how much you earn from each customer you generate in your business. If you’re promoting a $97 Clickbank product that pays 70%commissions, your maximum customer value is $67.90.
That’s not a whole lot of money to work with. Paid traffic is expensive these days!
However, if you’re promoting something like what I’ll show you below.
A system that allows you to earn commissions on an entire range of different products your max customer value might be a few thousand dollars.
So after getting 20-50 sales, you’ll be able to divide them up and find out your average customer value. Not every buyer is going to buy more than one thing. But many will.
By being able to earn commissions on multiple more expensive products, your customer value shoots up and you can afford to spend more money on paid advertising to acquire the first ‘front-end’ sale.
If you figure out on average your customer value is $1,000.00 and your customer acquisition cost (how much you spend to get a customer) is only $300.00 through a specific advertising channel…
You can start spending A LOT of money with that channel and see a lot of cash come in very fast.
STEP 7: LEVERAGE PROVEN SALES FUNNELS
If you follow everything I’ve just told you, you’ll be able to build a business that pays you in your sleep, runs on autopilot and allows you to live the ‘laptop lifestyle’.

- What You Stand For (Your Beliefs And Values)
- Your Magic Powers (What You’re Good At & Can Do For Them)
- Your Stories
- Your Secret Language
In theory, this is basic stuff.
But the fact is, it can take a WHILE to get all of this together. To get the right offer, to setup your sales funnel the right way, finding the best traffic sources and so on.
